Rains of '95
words & music by Darryl Cherney
(Bm)
I was living up in (D) Honeydew
Just my (A) wife,
the kids and (Bm)me
Halfway 'tween the
(D) redwood forest
And the (A) old Pacific
(Bm) Sea
When the rains they
started coming down
For forty days and
nights
Wasn't quite as bad
as Noah had it
But my hands were
full all right
Chorus:
Can't you hear it (Bm) roll
(D)
Can't you hear it
(A) roll
Hear the water (Bm)
roll
Well the soil was saturated
for sure
And the creeks were
rising high
Water, water everywhere
And it didn't leave
a damn thing dry
Well my roof was leaking
and the roads were washing
And the ponds were
about to flood
Went outside to put
some waterbars in
And I came back covered
in mud
(Chorus)
Well I looked in the kitchen
cupboard
And I needed some
supplies
Better make it down
that Honeydew Road
"Fore the mud begins
to slide
So I drove that twisty
mountain road
With my wife the kids
and the dogs
Dodging the power
lines the rocks and the mud
A few telephone polls
and logs
(Chorus)
Well the wind was ripping
down redwood trees
Like they were pick
up sticks
And my wife said you
know this might seem bad
But it's not as bad
as '86
And I said '86 was
a pretty bad flood
But not as bad as
'64
And she said '64 was
pretty bad
But '55 did a whole
lot more
(Chorus)
Well we made it as far as
old Bull Creek
When much to our chagrin
Was a hundred foot
hole in the middle of the road
Hit my breaks so we
didn't fall in
Now the moral of the
story is
That the Earth is
in control
Just when it seemed
all hope was lost
We found it down in
that hole
(Chorus)
So we jumped in the car
and we turned it around
And we headed back
to Honeydew
Waited out the storm
and waited for help
And burned us a candle
or two
Now those were the
Rains of '95
But they'll happen
again you'll see
Halfway tween the
redwood forest
And the old Pacific
Sea
