(G) The year was 1988 the (C) election was rolling a-(G)round
We were voting for our congressman three (A) candidates had been (D) found
There was (G) Democrat Doug Bosco, (C) Peace and Freedom was Eric (G)Fried
Republican Mark Vanderbilt, well the (A) choice was (D) clear in-(G) deed
But Peace and Freedom Eric Fried he didn't stand a chance
And Republican Mark Vanderbilt was in a religious trance
Incumbent Dougy Bosco, he was pushin' for oil offshore
So I cried my God is this all we've got
Well there must be someone more
Chorus:
I'm votin' for (C) Clausen, I don't care if he's (G) dead
He was a good old time Republican who (A) meant just what he (D)said
I'm voting for (C) Clausen, 'cause I knew where he (G) stood
And he wasn't a preacher, he (D) wasn't a commie and he (C) didn't hang out
with (G) hoods
So I went to see our Congressman in Santa Rosa town
And I asked, "Hey, where is Bosco?" but they said he ain't around
Then I recalled in Donny Clausen's day Don was there to lend a hand
So what he was a fascist, at least he was a family man
(repeat chorus)
Now November it's a getting near and I've got worries on my mind
We've got a minister a patsy and a Stalinist, not one of them my kind
Oh, they buried old Don Clausen in his Republican cloth coat
They named a freeway overpass in Rohnert Park for him and he's damn sure got
my vote!
Last chorus ends:
(Slow) No he (G) wasn't a preacher, he (D) wasn't a commie,
and he (C) didn't hang out, didn't hang out, didn't hang out, didn't hang out
with (G) hoods
Like Dougy (G7) does!
