Grant's Pass

Words and Music by Darryl Cherney

(G) Now I'm just a hippie environmentalist

(D) Thumbing through this redneck town

I've got an Earth First! shirt, 2 layers of dirt

Not the (G) kind they wanted hangin' around

Well I shoulda known better but I went ahead an entered

Old (D) Shenanigan's Saloon

But when I ordered a beer they said "no Earth First!ers here"

And they (G) broke into a country (D7) tune

Chorus:

(G) Grant's Pass, Grant's (D) Pass

A place where they want to kick my (G) ass (D7)

Grant's (G) Pass, Grant's (D) Pass

A place where they want to kick my (G) ass (D7)

Well the next day was the Silver Fire Round-up

And the yellow ribbons flew so high

They was going salvage logging' in the Siskiyou National Forest

And they cheered as every log rolled by

Well being a foolish bastard I picked up a protest placard

Said "No logging on our public lands"

But I found myself surrounded by the loggers that abounded

And it wasn't hard to guess their plan

Chorus

Now at the north end of town they've got a giant caveman

And he's carrying a great big club

He's a-overlooking Denny's, Stihl Chainsaw and J.C. Penny's

And he's sending you a message, bub

He says "We're Oregon clearcutters and we're furrow-browed head-butters

And we don't like tree-huggers at all

And we'll tell you 'It's the climate' and if you don't freakin' like it

Take it up with us Neanderthals
